FORWARD
The following is the selection of 240 tables of the most important writing and printing types in 2000 years of the Western world, however it is not thought to be a complete collection. Such a collection would require much more in-depth writings because of the development of writing throughout time, countries and people then can be shown here. The practical purpose of Werkkunstbücheri, whose 6th volume is “Die Schrift” was from the beginning a limitation call of choice of most relevant parts for Werkkünstler i.e. mostly stylish writings and typically expressive in their own timely epochs and spatial areas to follow. The slow coming and passing of writing habits in all single phases, the mass of overwhelming writing in their own homeland, even according to individual personalities to determine and to sort our tasks that the Paleographers crave, are not achievable by the practical Werkkünstler (artist). He prefers illustrative material, examples and pictures of different writings from the different areas from which he can glean new ideas, with this in mind was the selection made and I request you base your verdict on this.
